Snow and ice management professionals are always looking for ways to improve efficiency, expand services, and enhance public safety. One innovative solution gaining attention across the industry is the TrucBrush, a snow removal attachment designed specifically to clear accumulated snow from the tops of commercial vehicles.

In a recent interview with Snow Plow News, Debora Babin Katz of TrucBrush explained how the attachment is helping contractors and transportation companies address a long-standing winter safety issue.

Solving a Major Roadway Safety Problem

Drivers are all too familiar with the experience of traveling behind a large truck or trailer and suddenly being hit with blowing snow or chunks of ice coming off the top. When snow accumulated on commercial vehicles dislodges at highway speeds, it can create dangerous conditions for drivers behind them.

The TrucBrush was developed to solve this problem by allowing operators to safely remove snow and ice from the tops of trucks, trailers, buses, flatbeds, and step decks before they leave a terminal or facility.

“It’s the first product of its kind,” Katz explained. “It allows snow contractors as well as transportation companies that handle snow in-house to remove accumulated snow from vehicle roofs prior to them going out on the roadway.”

Built for Efficiency and Vehicle Protection

The TrucBrush operates as an attachment powered by a front-end loader weighing over 16,000 pounds. The system features a large broom constructed with polypropylene bristles, which are strong enough to remove snow efficiently while remaining safe for sensitive surfaces.

This design is particularly important for fleets operating vehicles with fiberglass tops, such as delivery trucks and buses.

“The brush is all polypropylene bristles,” Katz said. “That’s important for transportation companies because it won’t damage the tops of trucks or trailers.”

Quick Attach, More Equipment Utilization

Another advantage of the TrucBrush is its quick-coupling design. Operators can easily attach or remove the system from a loader, allowing the same machine to switch between pushing snow on the ground and clearing trucks.

For contractors, this flexibility means they can make better use of equipment already on-site.

“The loader could have a pusher and be doing ground snow,” Katz explained. “Then when it’s time to clear the tractor-trailer trucks, they put the TrucBrush on and it becomes a totally new revenue stream.”

This ability to expand services without adding another machine can significantly increase operational efficiency.

Clearing Trucks in Seconds

Speed is another key advantage. According to Katz, the TrucBrush can clear the top of a tractor-trailer truck in approximately 30 seconds, making it practical even for busy distribution centers and transportation terminals.

That quick turnaround allows facilities to maintain safety standards without slowing down operations.

Designed for Mixed Fleet Operations

Truck terminals often manage fleets that include vehicles of varying heights, including vans, box trucks, and tractor-trailers. The TrucBrush addresses this challenge with built-in flexibility.

Unlike fixed systems that require vehicles to be grouped by height, the TrucBrush adapts each time the loader positions the brush over a vehicle.

“Terminals can have multiple truck heights,” Katz said. “You don’t have to line them up by height. Every time the loader places the brush on the truck, it’s essentially a custom fit.”

A Growing Tool for the Snow Industry

As awareness grows around the hazards of snow and ice falling from commercial vehicles, solutions like the TrucBrush are becoming an increasingly valuable tool for both contractors and transportation companies.

By improving safety, increasing equipment utilization, and creating new service opportunities, the TrucBrush represents a practical innovation in modern snow and ice management.
