The Double Down salt bucket is a very versatile product that possesses a unique scoop and go design, an auger for spreading salt to both sides to help with coverage, and different models for skid steers and compact wheel loaders.
In a conversation with John Pinckney of Arctic Snow and Ice Products, we learned about the DoubleDown salt bucket and its versatility in the field. Arctic Snow and Ice Products originally started out in the snow removal business and have since become the largest privately owned snow removal company in the United States. Pinckney states, “We found that there weren’t products that met our needs and weren’t quite as efficient, so we started developing our own product line. We were really excited to bring the DoubleDown salt bucket to market because it’s a product that met our needs in the snow removal industry”.

The DoubleDown salt bucket: Ideology and Versatility
Arctic Snow and Ice does not have a lot of trucks on the road and are primarily an equipment-based business and therefore have a lot of skid steers and wheel loaders. They needed a product that could spread salt on the lots because it’s sometimes hard to deploy a truck to the site. It’s much easier if there already is an operator at the site to have them go put their Double Down salt bucket on and salt the lot. The customer gets much better service. Pinckney informs, “The DoubleDown is unique in the way that it’s a scoop and go design so it is a bucket that can scoop into a pile of salt and then spread it. It has an auger in the bottom of it so that it’ll spread salt out both sides, so that just gives you a much better coverage rate. It allows you to get closer to rolling that salt out. It’ll get underneath cars and so forth. You know a traditional truck spreader is going to be much higher, whereas this gets a lot lower to the ground when it’s spreading”.
Utility of the DoubleDown
According to Pinckney, the DoubleDown does not require a lot of install. He states, “There’s a skid steer, compact wheel loader for the one-yard model and then we’re also making a three yard model which is going to go on a machine that’s in the 30,000 lb. class. You need about a 10,000 lb. lift capacity for a three yard and about 3500 lb. lift capacity for our one yard”. Furthermore, the DoubleDown is a great way to reduce liability on a site especially regarding rapid weather changes in the winter time. When the DoubleDown is on site, it can be serviced a lot faster. Therefore, so if even one slip and fall claim could be prevented by utilizing the DoubleDown, it’s paid for itself.
