Have you ever wondered the difference between a Stainless Steel Salt Spreader and a Poly V-Box Salt Spreader? What about the difference between a pintle chain and auger? Terry Wendorff, President of Sno-Way talks with Snow Plow News about the differences and benefits of these two spreaders and how they work.

The benefit for years has been that stainless steel is non-corrosive, however, stainless steel does corrode over time. Once a spreader starts to corrode, it doesn’t flow as well and material doesn’t slide off it as well. With this information in mind, Sno-Way decided to switch to a poly v-box spreader. The poly v-box spreader provides a more consistent flow.

If you are in the market for a spreader, the next decision to make would be to use a pintle chain or an auger. With an auger, you have much more control over the amount of salt that you want to output. With a pintle chain, there is a 14 inch wide by 6 inch chute and the salt lays in this chute and hits the spinner, then drops. So if you’re trying to flow a certain amount of salt to cover an area properly, it’s not as predictable with a pintle chain as with an auger. Sno-Way liked the control of the auger, so they have implemented this into their spreader line.
