Mack Trucks has officially launched Mack® Protect, its proprietary collision mitigation system, now available on the Mack MD Series medium-duty trucks. The system expands Mack’s active safety technology into the medium-duty segment, bringing a suite of driver-assist features designed to improve situational awareness and help reduce both the frequency and severity of collisions.

Originally introduced on Mack’s heavy-duty lineup, Mack Protect has been engineered as a fully integrated active safety platform combining radar, camera systems, and proprietary detection algorithms. The system is designed to meet Mack’s durability and performance standards while operating effectively in demanding urban and regional environments—where medium-duty vocational trucks are frequently deployed.

Mack Trucks today launched Mack® Protect, its comprehensive proprietary collision mitigation system, for its Mack MD Series models. Mack made the announcement during Work Truck Week 2026, March 10-13, at the Indiana Convention Center, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Expanded Active Safety for Medium-Duty Applications

Mack Protect includes a comprehensive set of safety features:

  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW): Uses radar and camera input to detect vehicles, cyclists, motorcycles, and pedestrians ahead, issuing escalating visual and audible alerts when collision risk is identified.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC): Maintains a safe following distance by automatically adjusting speed using radar-based vehicle detection, and can engage engine braking, downshifting, and service braking as needed.
  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB): If a driver does not respond to FCW alerts, the system can automatically apply brakes to reduce impact severity or help avoid a collision, while activating brake lamps and hazard lights when appropriate.
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW): A forward-facing camera monitors lane markings and alerts drivers when unintended lane drift is detected, with directional audio cues.
  • Speed Limit Sign Recognition with Overspeed Alerts: Detects posted speed limits and provides in-cab display updates and escalating alerts when speed thresholds are exceeded.
  • Lane Change and Blind Spot Support: Side-facing sensors enhance detection of vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians along the passenger side to support safer lane changes and reduce blind-spot incidents.

According to Mack, the system was developed to extend heavy-duty-grade safety technology into vocational applications where congestion, frequent stops, and mixed traffic environments increase operational risk.

“Situational awareness, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking help customers operate more safely in dense urban and regional environments,” said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America.

Mack senior product manager Alex Lee added that the system reflects the company’s focus on combining safety innovation with uptime and durability expectations from vocational customers.

Mack Protect will be available through Mack dealers as part of the MD Series safety offering, further expanding the manufacturer’s growing portfolio of integrated driver-assist technologies designed for commercial fleet applications.
