Hilltip’s new StrikeSmart Plus controller and TempStriker bring real-time weather forecasting, surface temperature data, and smart material rate recommendations to the cab, streamlining operations and reducing waste with a fully integrated system.
Hilltip Corporation is raising the bar once again for winter maintenance operations in North America. We caught up with Craig Sandman, Managing Director of Hilltip North America, to learn about the company’s latest innovation designed to help operators make more data-informed decisions in the field.
This season, Hilltip is rolling out the StrikeSmartTM Plus control interface, a significant upgrade from the company’s standard StrikeSmartTM controller. The new system is built around an app-based tablet, giving operators an intuitive touchscreen experience with expanded capabilities.
“The StrikeSmartTM Plus controller brings live weather forecasting directly to the cab,” explains Sandman. “When paired with our new TempstrikerTM, the system goes even further, delivering real-time insights into dew point, road surface temperature, and ambient air temperature.”
This sensor-based intelligence allows the system to recommend optimized application rates based on both current conditions and forecast data, helping operators apply materials more precisely, reduce waste, and improve environmental outcomes.
According to Sandman, that’s what sets Hilltip apart.
“There have been other component manufacturers offering pieces of this puzzle, ground temperature sensors, air temperature readings, but no one has brought it all together into a vertically integrated system the way Hilltip has,” he says.
The TempstrikerTM sensor system is also designed with maximum flexibility in mind. It’s interchangeable across Hilltip’s lineup of spreaders and sprayers and can be retrofitted into existing equipment, giving fleet managers the option to upgrade without overhauling their current setup.
With tools like StrikeSmartTM Plus and TempstrikerTM, Hilltip is not only offering smart equipment, it’s delivering a smarter way to manage winter operations.
