Designed for today’s changing fleet needs, Hilltip’s 3400 AM extended auger machine offers increased flexibility for trucks with interchangeable bed systems — and can even retrofit to existing Hilltip units.
Snow Plow News recently sat down with Craig Sandmann of Hilltip to learn more about the company’s newest innovation, the 3400 AM Extended Auger Machine, a modular spreader system designed to bring more flexibility and efficiency to fleet operations.
According to Sandmann, the new 3400 AM model complements Hilltip’s existing line of modular spreaders but stands out for one key reason, it’s perfectly suited for the Switch-and-Go® interchangeable bed market.
“It allows the machine to shift closer to the front the bulkhead of the truck, improving overall weight distribution,” Sandmann explained.
Since 2020, the concept of interchangeable or hook-lift truck beds has gained major traction, particularly as fleets face ongoing challenges with truck availability and driver shortages. Hilltip’s new design directly addresses those concerns.
“In a day and age where you can’t get trucks and can’t get drivers, this piece of equipment checks a lot of boxes with a lot fewer people,” Sandmann said.
Once operators determine how the truck and bed configuration will be used, the 3400 AM system offers greater adjustability and versatility to accommodate a wide range of bed types.
The extended auger setup is primarily focused on Hilltip’s 2000 Series, covering 2-yard units up to approximately 4.2 cubic yards. That includes hopper lengths ranging from 7 feet to about 10 feet.
And for those who already own a Hilltip machine, the good news is that the extended auger can be retrofitted onto an existing platform.
“Our spreader bottoms all use the same bolt pattern,” Sandmann noted. “The only difference is the lengthened auger or chain tray section, which can be swapped by disassembling the bottom of the spreader and replacing it with the extended version.”
The result is a modular, adaptable solution that gives operators more control over truck setup, weight distribution, and material delivery, all while reducing labor needs and downtime.
With the new 3400 AM Extended Auger Machine, Hilltip continues to expand its lineup with equipment that meets today’s operational challenges head-on, offering the flexibility modern fleets demand.
