It’s time to take winter weather preparation seriously if you are located in Montana. The U.S. National Weather Service and private weather forecasting services like Neoweather are predicting a early-winter snow and ice storm will hit large parts of Montana Saturday morning, September 28, 2019 and Sunday, September 29, 2019.
Forecasters are predicting several inches of snow, dangerous winds and blowing, record cold temperatures, hazardous travel conditions, life-threatening backcountry conditions, downed trees and power lines, and damage to crops based on extremely cold temperatures.
The storm will actually begin Thursday, but will intensify and do most of its damage on Saturday and Sunday. Areas of Montana and the Rocky Mountain front are predicted to get 8-12 inches of snow and the valleys are predicted to get 1-2 inches of snow by Sunday morning. The valley snow falls may seem minimal, but because it’s so early in the season, this will be considered a historic storm. The real dump will be in the Marias Pass area with as much as 30 inches of snow!
