Ed Viesturs, the first American to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks without supplemental oxygen, will deliver the keynote at Work Truck Week 2027.
Legendary mountaineer Ed Viesturs will headline Work Truck Week® 2027 as the event’s keynote speaker, bringing lessons from some of the world’s most challenging climbs to the work truck industry.
Viesturs, the first American to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks without supplemental oxygen, will speak at the NTEA Annual Meeting on March 11, 2027, at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
During his presentation, Viesturs will draw on more than three decades as a professional climber to discuss leadership, teamwork, risk management, preparation and overcoming obstacles. His presentation will include photography from his expeditions around the world.
Lessons From the World’s Highest Peaks
Viesturs spent 18 years pursuing the 14 highest mountains on Earth, known as the “eight-thousanders.” With summits rising above 26,247 feet, the mountains reach what climbers call the “Death Zone,” where atmospheric pressure is low enough that the body receives roughly one-third the oxygen available at sea level.
He completed the challenge in May 2005 when he successfully summited Annapurna on his third attempt. Annapurna is considered the deadliest of the 14 eight-thousanders.
Viesturs has emphasized preparation and knowing when to turn back throughout his climbing career. Those experiences will form the foundation of his Work Truck Week keynote.

Viesturs has also climbed Mount Everest seven times. He served as a climbing team leader for the expedition featured in the 1998 IMAX documentary Everest, which was also chronicled in Jon Krakauer’s bestselling book Into Thin Air.
Work Truck Week 2027
Work Truck Week is scheduled for March 9–12, 2027, at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. The event brings together manufacturers, suppliers and professionals from across the work truck industry.
The 2027 event will include:

- Future Truck Summit: March 9
- Work Truck Week Ride & Drive: March 10–11
- Educational programming: March 9–11
Viesturs’ keynote will follow breakfast and NTEA business during the Annual Meeting, including updates on association initiatives and resources and changes in board leadership.
A Career Built Around Preparation and Risk Management
Viesturs has received numerous honors for his mountaineering career, including National Geographic’s inaugural Adventurer of the Year award in 2005 and the Explorers Club’s Lowell Thomas Award.
His commitment to climbing safety has also been recognized by the American Alpine Club. In 1992, Viesturs participated in two rescues on K2, the world’s second-highest mountain.
He has chronicled his experiences in several books, including No Shortcuts to the Top: Climbing the World’s 14 Highest Peaks, The Will to Climb and The Mountain: My Time on Everest.
Viesturs continues to guide climbing expeditions and works with outdoor brands and organizations, including Big City Mountaineers.
