Compact equipment attachment manufacturer adds Fort Madison location to support growing demand and strengthen North American production network

Virnig Manufacturing is expanding its operational footprint with the purchase of a new facility in Fort Madison, Iowa, marking another major milestone in the company’s continued growth.

The Rice, Minnesota-based manufacturer, known for its attachments and trailers for compact equipment, said the expansion is designed to increase production capacity, improve service levels and reduce lead times for customers across North America.

According to the company, the new facility will play a key role in supporting rising demand for Virnig products while adding flexibility across its manufacturing network.

“As demand for our products continues to grow, expanding our capabilities is essential to maintaining the level of service and quality our customers expect,” said Dean Virnig, owner of Virnig Manufacturing. “The Fort Madison facility positions us well for the future while reinforcing our commitment to the industry.”

Existing operations in Rice, Minnesota, and Pikeville, Tennessee, will continue to serve as core components of the company’s manufacturing footprint.

Increased capacity and improved lead times

The Fort Madison expansion is expected to deliver several operational advantages, including:

  • Increased production capabilities
  • Improved service and lead times across North America
  • Greater flexibility to meet customer needs

For contractors, dealers and fleet operators, the move signals additional manufacturing capacity from a well-established attachment supplier serving the compact equipment market.

Virnig manufactures a wide range of attachments for skid steers, mini skid steers, compact tractors, compact wheel loaders and mini excavators, supporting industries including construction, landscaping, forestry and agriculture.

Hiring plans underway in Iowa

In addition to increased production capacity, the new facility is expected to bring new employment opportunities to the Fort Madison area.

The company plans to begin hiring for multiple positions as the site becomes operational, with an emphasis on building a team-focused workplace and long-term career opportunities.

Virnig said new team members can expect:

  • A supportive, team-focused environment
  • Opportunities for career growth
  • Meaningful hands-on work
  • Competitive benefits and ramping vacation time

The company said the expansion reflects its continued investment not only in manufacturing capacity, but also in people and local communities.

From a garage startup to multi-state manufacturer

Founded in 1989, Virnig Manufacturing began as a small operation started by Dean and Lois Virnig in a two-car garage outside of Pierz, Minnesota, where the business initially focused on repair work for local farmers and construction companies.

Over time, the company expanded into manufacturing skid steer attachments and dump trailers, building a reputation for quality workmanship and dependable service.

That growth continued through several major facility expansions, including the development of a state-of-the-art plant in Rice, Minnesota, in 2001, followed by additional expansions in 2010, 2014 and 2021 to support welding, engineering and finishing operations.

In 2021, Virnig further expanded its manufacturing presence with the purchase of a 62,000-square-foot facility in Pikeville, Tennessee, which became operational in early 2022.

Most recently, the company re-entered the trailer market in 2025 with the launch of its Hydraulic Drop Deck Utility Trailer, broadening its product lineup.

Today, Virnig handles all major phases of manufacturing in-house, including engineering, raw material cutting, machining, welding and painting.

Despite its growth, the company said its focus remains unchanged: delivering durable, high-performance products for equipment operators across North America.
