Comparing the Bobcat Toolcat and Trackless MT7 for Campus Maintenance

When it comes to maintaining college and university campuses, the choice of machinery can significantly impact efficiency and effectiveness. While the Bobcat Toolcat is a popular option, the Trackless MT7 emerges as a formidable alternative. Both machines offer versatility and durability, but let’s dive into what sets them apart and why the Trackless MT7 might be the better choice for campus grounds maintenance.

Versatility and Durability

The Bobcat Toolcat is known for its versatility, but the Trackless MT7 takes durability to the next level. Weighing in at 6,900 pounds, the MT7 is built with heavy-duty steel construction, making it robust enough to handle challenging tasks year-round. In contrast, the Toolcat UW53 weighs 5,710 pounds and features lighter materials. The steel construction of the MT7 not only enhances durability but also allows for easier and more cost-effective repairs compared to non-metallic materials like plastic.

The MT7 boasts over 30 different attachments, enabling it to seamlessly transition from snow removal in winter to landscaping in summer, ensuring zero downtime throughout the year. While the Toolcat’s hydraulic power steering allows for a tight turning radius of 11.2 feet, the Trackless MT7, being an articulated machine, offers an even tighter inside turning radius of approximately 8 feet.

Power and Performance

The Trackless MT7 is equipped with a powerful John Deere 4045 TFC 03 engine that meets Stage 5 emission standards, providing high horsepower and torque to tackle tough conditions such as heavy snow and rugged terrain. Unlike the Toolcat, which has limited PTO options; the Toolcat UW56 model does not feature a PTO, and the Toolcat UW53 is equipped with only a rear PTO. The MT7 features both front and rear PTOs, enhancing its operational versatility.

The Trackless MT7 is equipped with PTO Work Mode and Standard Mode to increase efficiency and performance. PTO Work Mode allows an operator to set the engine at full RPM to power PTO-driven attachments such as a snowblower or mower and control ground speed independently by way of the hydrostatic foot pedal. Flip the switch to Standard Mode, and the tractor drives like a car. Standard Mode saves a significant amount of fuel as the engine RPM returns to idle when letting off the pedal vs constant full RPM when in Work Mode.

Operator Comfort and Control

Operator comfort is a priority in the design of the Trackless MT7. Its ergonomic cab, adjustable seating, and intuitive controls minimize operator fatigue, making it ideal for long work hours. Full climate controls ensure comfort in any season, keeping operators cool in summer and warm in winter.

Diagnostic System

The Trackless MT7 features a state-of-the-art digital dash system that displays all relevant tractor information, including fluid temperatures, speedometer, engine RPM, fuel level, and more. This digital dash also functions as an onboard diagnostic system, allowing users to access tractor diagnostics if a fault is detected, ensuring timely maintenance and minimal downtime.

Serviceability

Built for longevity, the MT7’s heavy-duty construction and easily accessible components simplify maintenance. Key components can be accessed without tools, and the steel lift-assisted hood enhances durability. Trackless also ensures quick parts supply through its distribution network, with orders shipped the same day if received by 1:30 p.m.

For comprehensive support, Trackless offers Municipal Tractor University (MTU), a free online platform providing resources for customers, dealers, operators, and service providers. MTU offers 24/7 access to documentation and support, enhancing the overall user experience.
